what is improv?

Improv is the bold medium of live, unscripted theater performance. Lights, music, action — players enter the stage with only a powerful shared skill set to create with. It requires a state of deep presence and acute cooperation. Each scene unfolds moment-by-moment, as players remain wide open, trust their impulses, listen deeply, and accept and build on what is unfolding. Taken into the workplace, and into life, this embodied skill set engenders enlivening relationships and communication, and boundless creativity. Improv gives us the tools to experience change, meaning life, as an open field of endless possibilities, rather than something to fear and (pretend we can) control.

what some other folks had to say

"I'm better at trusting my ability to spontaneously deal with the unfamiliar. It's very empowering. Improv is emblematic of any creative process in that it only works when you surrender control and learn to assimilate small pieces as they reveal themselves. With Improv, more than other creative processes, you experience it in your bones. It's mental, physical, musical, visual, visceral, etc. After a lesson like that it's hard not to come away with it impacting the creative processes in all parts of your life. Thanks again for a wonderful, warm experience."
-Chris Jones, Internet Product Designer

"I expected just to have a fun time — I never imagined it would also turn out to be such a profound emotional/psychological learning experience. Almost from the first day in class, I felt like I had been given back a huge piece of myself. Every week I would find myself in life situations outside of class applying Improv lessons — being comfortable in the unknown, going with my first offer, not blocking etc. etc. My only regret was that the class met only weekly, instead of daily!
-B. LaDove, Ellipsis, Inc.

"You provided a safe and supportive environment for someone to make an attempt to risk and change their thought processes for a healthier, more self accepting reality. I can tell if you really concentrate on just the moment you're are in, the true feelings you are having, you can speak extemporaneously, entertain the clients, or achieve a laugh without even really trying. Almost zennish."
